Melita Mamo told me that Francis had the nickname 'id-didda' as a child.

Notes for ALBERT ERNEST TAYLOR:

Trained at WOOLWICH Barracks.

Sailed from SOUTHAMPTON to MALTA in January 1939 on board the troopship SOMERSETSHIRE.

Initially stationed at MTARFA Barracks.

In January 1944, together with Francis and two children returned to UK.

The convoy of 50 ships had a destroyer escort and suffered several U-boat attacks.

During one of the attacks Francis and baby Dennis almost fell overboard.

 

 

Has written a manuscript about the ack-ack gunners in MALTA during WW2 called ' Island Besieged Malta 1939-1944'.

 

More About ALBERT ERNEST TAYLOR:

Medical Information: During WW2 caught hepatitis.In September 1999 required life-saving bowel surgery whilst on holiday in Malta.

Military service: March 24, 1938, Royal Artillery

Occupation: Talent Scout for Grimsby Town F.C.

Met Francis when she was out shopping in Hamrun with two of her sisters. 

He was walking from Valletta back to his barracks.
