1.  PIETRO1 FRIGERI (Source: Arnold Frigeri.) was born 1862 in Cremona, Italy, and died Abt. 1940 in USA.  He married FLAMINNIA NANNINI in England.  She died Abt. 1940 in USA.

The following profile was provided by his grandson Arthur King.

 

He was the thirteenth child (of sixteen) of a farming family and ran away from home aged 13 in 1875.

Lived/worked/played in Tunisia with French settlers/merchants and learned to deal/barter/play with the native Arabs.  He did this mostly in and around Tunis, but also visited/worked in the other large cities, probably Bizerts and Scusse.  He also spent time in Alger, Algeria which was also controlled by France.

With his fluency in French from time spent in their North Africa colonies he did spend time in Paris, where he apprenticed in shoe/bootmaking.  He also spent time or worked as a field hand in the wine making region of Bordeaux. 

His trips to America began during this time; all stories indicated the visits were only to the north east coast, from Boston to Washington D.C.

On a visit to ether Alger or Tunis sometime in the late 1880's he heard, met, had a few meals with Enrico Caruso early in the tenor's mercurial rise to world fame.  He traveled a lot until he settled in England sometime in the early 1890s; his visits to anywhere were from 1 to 5 months. During his visits Pietro was very impressed by the various opportunities available in the US.  He must have made friends easily; to be taken hunting rabbits in the 1880's in northern Manhattan, entered into swimming contests across the Hudson River (winning a first place gold metal that somehow got lost).

Although Pietro's formal education was very limited and his birthright equally humble he was an avid reader, a quick learner, and lover of classics (poetry & music).  The love of the latter together with the orderliness of the British is what made him settle in London.  Until he moved to USA for greater opportunity as the family provider, London was his residence of choice.
